WALT:
Using a combination of CUBES and draw a diagram to solve word problems.
WILF:
All of us will be able to circle the key numbers and underline the question.
Most of us will be able box up the action words and evaluate what steps to take.
Some of us will be able to complete all of the above and use the knowledge to solve and check the question

Why use a diagram:
Drawing a picture of a word problem often reveals aspects of the problem that may not be apparent at first.
If the situation described in the problem is difficult to visualise, a diagram, using simple symbols or pictures, may enable us to see the situation more easily.
The diagram will also assist us to keep track of the stages of a problem where there are a number of steps.
In order to use the strategy of drawing a diagram effectively, we will need to develop the following skills and understanding
- USING A LINE TO SYMBOLISE AN OBJECT
- USING A TIME/DISTANCE LINE TO DISPLAY THE INFORMATION
- DRAWING A PICTURE
